The Honda FL5 intake manifold is the culmination of an iteration of the FK8 system that provides an optimized solution by taking advantage of the increased space in the FL5 engine bay. With a sealed air intake, the company has minimized heat absorption to ensure a constant supply of cool air to the turbine. Because the air intake is located directly behind the radiator, it is important that the filter is not open, which would cause heated air to be drawn into the turbine.
The company also replaced the standard flexible intake hose, which creates turbulence and therefore increases drag. In the FL5 intake manifold, the company designed a seamless path from the filter to the intake tube, eliminating drag and smoothing airflow. Engine movement is now provided by the intake tube itself, which can move inside the air block while maintaining thermal insulation.
The carbon fiber air diffuser was designed to maximize available volume and minimize heat loss. This makes the performance and aesthetic appearance the best in the industry for the FL5 Type R.
